Cliffnotes:

He said he purposely mumbled the bad part for one of the takes. There were three different takes. After reviewing it, he demanded that they didn't use that one because it wasn't enough of a mumble.

Apology, that word is horrible, apology, I never use that word, apology, etc..

Is his picture the statement or is there also text? (twit pictures are blocked at my work, while twitter isn't, strange, I know).

That is very un-Clarkson like of him.

But the Mexicans are still lazy and shiftless, amirite?

It's a minute long video. I won't transcribe it, but will add some text to my post.

I just watched the clip on the Daily Mail website. They even slow it down and turn up the volume like Clarkson suggests. I am confident in saying that this is the most bullshit, drummed-up "thass racess" moment I've ever heard of. This is nothing close to Donald Sterling, and so far away from the actual day-to-day racism in this world that you can't even see it from here.

Its quite unnerving to see him act so serious. So, glum.

So I just watched it, and I am impressed with his response. Very calm, seemingly hurt, but very serious and honest in the video.

You think that's drummed-up? Check this one out.

While discussing this "eeney meeny" rhyme on another message board, someone shared this with me. I had no idea this actually happened.

Whole lot of fuss about nothing at all. Usually the only people who are offended by 'racially loaded words' are white soccer moms and dramaqueens. And there wasn't even a remark here anyway.

For fucks sake, Top Gear is mostly a comedy act nowadays anyway.

It's ENTERTAINMENT. You know, just like those stand up comedians on stage that make jokes about lazy Mexicans/'Muricans/French/Pygmees/whatever.

Yes, they sometimes make fun of groups of people. But they make fun of ALL groups. Not singling out one. And it's not a loaded joke. it's just a joke.

Have some relevant Tim Minchin with a twist to cheer this whole bullsh*tfest up a bit:

The worst about the whole video is that you are 'primed' to listen for that word beforehand. If they would have written the article about the word 'nipple' people would have heard nipple.

Yep. Primed to hear it and I didn't fucking HEAR. Because it wasn't fucking THERE.

Goddammit. They can't leave him alone can't they. I didn't even hear it and I'm black.

I get so sick of these kind of things. IMO making such a big deal out of a term or word is far more racist since you give the otherwise valueless selection of letters a loaded meaning. Therefore emphasizing the difference between people.

Not that there is anything wrong with saying people are different. Because we are. Just as long as we are equal. If people could wrap their head around this, they wouldn't have to tiptoe around so much.

We have a holiday in Holland where saint Nicholas has black helpers.

Lately every year there is a giant shitfest about this and campaigns to have the helpers wear random colored makeup instead of the black faces.
Every year it reminds me about the episode of Southpark with the town flag where the kids don't even notice the difference of colour in the people on the flag but just the fact that someone is being hanged.

My link is for others who hadn't seen the clip where he mumbles over the offending word. I hadn't seen it posted elsewhere here.
